Refund Calendar

Project your deposit date.

The projection runs from the date the IRS accepted your return — not the day you signed it and not the day it was submitted. Acceptance is the moment the IRS acknowledges the return and starts processing it.

The IRS issues most refunds within 21 days of acceptance. Everything below is a projection for planning, not a promised date.

When will my refund arrive?

Enter the date the IRS accepted your return — that is the acceptance date on your e-file confirmation, not the date you signed. We project your deposit or check window from the IRS refund timetable.

These dates are projections based on the IRS statement that most refunds are issued within 21 days of acceptance. They are not guaranteed. Identity verification, math error notices, offsets for past-due debts, amended returns, and paper filings can extend the timeline. Check Where’s My Refund? at IRS.gov for the official status of your refund.

Know before you wait

What can delay a refund.

PATH Act hold

Returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit are held by law until mid-February, even when everything else is in order.

Identity verification

The IRS may mail a letter asking you to verify your identity before it releases the refund. Nothing moves until you respond.

Math error notices

If the IRS adjusts a figure on your return, it sends a notice explaining the change, and the refund waits on that review.

Refund offsets

Past-due federal or state debts, child support, and defaulted student loans can reduce or redirect a refund before it reaches you.

Amended returns

An amended return is processed separately from the original filing and follows its own track, not the schedule below.

Paper-filed returns

A return mailed on paper is entered by hand before processing begins, so it does not follow the e-file acceptance timeline.
